Lesley has been a Consultant Anaesthetist, specialising in Obstetric Anaesthesia at the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHSFT from 2000.

Since 2010 Lesley has been Trust Medical Patient Safety Lead. Within that role, she has led sustained improvements in patient safety in perioperative care and early identification of the deteriorating patient, winning 2 Patient Safety Care Awards for Prevention of Intraoperative Hypothermia in 2014 and Patient Safety Team of the Year in 2020 improvements in Sepsis and AKI and development of Sepsis and Kidney Injury Prevention Team (SKIP).

She has extensive experience in Quality Improvement and is an Associate member of the NHS Improvement Quality Service Improvement and Redesign (QSIR) Faculty, which she has led in Bath since 2015, as well as a national Perioperative QSIR course since 2018.

She has led improvements in perioperative care preventing Never Events as well as improved outcomes for patients undergoing emergency laparotomy, both shortlisted as finalists for national awards in 2016 and 2017.

In recognition for her work, she was awarded the RUH Chief Executive Patient Safety Award in 2013 and shortlisted as a finalist for National Patient Safety Lead of the Year in 2017.

She is Deputy Chair of the Royal College Anaesthetists Quality Working Group and a member of the Secondary Care Adviser for Governing Body of Gloucester Clinical Commissioning Group.

Since 2020 she has been lead for Obstetric Anaesthesia in Bath and has been Treasurer of Regional Obstetric Anaesthetic Group , COMMA since 2016.

She has worked with Health Innovation West of England to spread use of NEWS across the region, as well as the Emergency Laparotomy Collaborative and since 2018 as QI adviser for the Precission project, reducing surgical site infection across the region.
