Lars is the Director of Enterprise at the West of England Academic Health Science Network and is responsible for developing new partnerships between companies and healthcare providers. He is also Professor of Practice in Translational Medicine at Bristol University and an honorary Professor of Medicine at Cardiff University. Lars has over 30 years experience working in translational medicine in industry and academia at the Universities of Bristol, Bordeaux, Cardiff, Oxford and Southampton. Lars has held several executive and board level positions in SMEs and local health sector groups. He has also been an advisor to several UK and Local Government task forces and has been an advisor to the European Commission, the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industry Associations, and was a founding member of the European Brain Council in Brussels.
In 2009, he set up the Severnside Alliance for Translational Research (SARTRE) developing a regional network partnership to link clinical and basic scientist from several universities with industry through a devolved funding scheme supported by the MRC and the Welsh Government. In 2012 he led a task and finish group providing recommendations to the Welsh Government for NHS – industry interactions which led to the creation of Health Research Wales.
