Rich began his career as a physiologist in clinical research. He then moved to an applied setting, and specialised as an exercise physiologist for the fire and rescue services, working as part of a multidisciplinary occupational health team to ensure the safety and wellbeing of firefighters in South Wales. During this time, Rich led a programme of research into national fitness standards for firefighters and had advised several Government departments on issues surrounding firefighter fitness.
As well as the Innovation Adviser to the West of England AHSN, which is a co-funded post between the AHSN and the University of Bath, Rich remains an active researcher at the university in the Department for Health. This allows him to follow closely the current university research portfolio that can contribute to the success of the AHSN and ultimately support and improve the NHS.
“As someone that is passionate about health research and improving the lives of others, I’m delighted to join such an amazing team and hope to contribute to the great work of the West of England AHSN”.
