Joanna is a paramedic with a long history of leading patient safety and service improvements in urgent and emergency care at local, regional and national levels. In every project, Joanna works towards improving communication and collaboration across the system as well as improving patient safety.
After implementing the National Early Warning Score within the ambulance service in the South West, Joanna joined the West of England AHSN in 2017 to lead on the Deteriorating Patient programme. Joanna now manages the Medicines Safety Programme which includes Atrial Fibrillation, PINCER, Transfer of Care around Medicines (TCAM) and polypharmacy.
Joanna practices clinically at South Western Ambulance Service alongside her role at the West of England AHSN.
“I love working here because we have the unique opportunity to bring together people from across the system with the sole purpose of improving the quality and safety of care. Working front line as a paramedic, I often got involved in the care of patients who ‘fell through the gaps’ and needed help during crises. With the proactive and joined-up approach the AHSN helps facilitate, those gaps are getting smaller.”
