The government’s updated guidance on admission and care of residents in care homes during COVID-19 includes use of NEWS2 and RESTORE2.

We offer free training for care providers in the West of England on these vital tools  and have trained over 2,375 care staffFind out what our training covers in this short video:

RESTORE2 Mini

1 hour

RESTORE2 mini is for non-registered care staff and paid support staff who are not expected to perform observations, and covers “soft signs” of deterioration and structured communication. This training is particularly suitable for non-medical care settings, such as residential homes and supported living, as well as for domiciliary care providers.

Who is it for?

Non-registered care assistants and support workers working in a care setting

Non-clinical and administrative staff working in a care provider setting

Carers or care providers for someone with a learning disability

ReSPECT level 1: Awareness

RESTORE2 Full

1.5 hours

RESTORE2 Full includes training on taking physical observations, including using pulse oximeters, and calculating the NEWS2 (national early warning score) and is suitable for all non-registered care staff, as well as being a refresher or upskilling for registered staff. It builds on the learning from the RESTORE2 mini session.

Train the Trainer

2 hours

The train-the-trainer session will give those who have responsibility for training and supporting others the skills and confidence to deliver RESTORE2 Full and Mini sessions.

Who is it for?

GPs, care home support teams

Clinical skills trainers, or other staff with a training role

Nurses, AHPs and other healthcare professionals working in care providers

What will you learn?

Recognising soft signs

Taking physical observations

Calculating a NEWS2 score

Using SBARD for structured communication at handover and escalation

ReSPECT level 1: Awareness

Training others in RESTORE2

Please note it is a requirement for you to have attended a RESTORE2 Full or Mini session in order to join this training.

 These sessions are aimed at homes in the West of England region. If you are from outside of the area, please contact your local AHSN to access local training.
