A cross-sector partnership project to promote mental health
The Create Open Health 2019 programme is now closed
In 2019, the Create Open Health programme was first launched, aiming to find new entrepreneurial talent with digital ideas, solutions or products that could address some of the key challenges faced by the NHS today.
In its first run, the focus of the programme was to help build resilience in young people and support positive mental health – all through community enablement, empowerment, communication and collaboration.
This open innovation initiative, was brought together by the Wellcome Trust, Creative England and the West of England AHSN. It utilised innovative outreach methods to engage with a broad and diverse participant group, making innovation relevant to all and helping to develop early stage digital solutions which could address this key NHS priority – to support the positive mental health and wellbeing of young people.
We aimed to encourage talented people to apply with remarkable propositions. These propositions needed to be rooted in a technology or digital approach and directly support and empower children and young people, their caregivers, or their community. In doing so they should build resilience and support positive mental health.
Participants in the progreamme received the opportunity to be part of a high intensity bootcamp covering business requirements, product development and navigating the healthcare market as well as a hackathon with technical experts to rapidly develop ideas into potentially viable solutions.
During this project we also worked closely with additional partners such as mental health charity Off The Record to help shape and guide the development of the programme, as well as technical and business experts such as: Bulbshare, Disruptive Thinking and Simpleweb.
