Evaluation and evidence training resources

If you’ve come to this page, you will already know the importance of finding and using evidence in your decision-making, and the value of evaluating any service changes. Welcome!

However, you may not know where to start, or not have used such skills for a while. In either case, this page will link you to a number of short easy-to-understand training videos on these topics to get you started, or refresh your skills.

But first, could you articulate the reasons and importance of evidence-informed healthcare? This short video will set the scene. [Duration: 3 mins 20 secs]

What do you want to know about evaluation and evidence?

 Evidence training resources
Evidence Works toolkit  Evaluation Works toolkit

All these resources are freely available to the NHS nationally, to increase capacity and capability in taking an evidence-informed approach to implementing changes in healthcare. They are for staff in the health and social care sectors to learn more about evidence and evaluation, and as a refresher to those who have already attended a workshop. They may also be incorporated within relevant training courses or team meetings, and were originally designed to be used in two workshops created and delivered in the West of England: ‘Finding the Evidence’ and ‘Getting Started in Service Evaluation’. The workshops were developed alongside two online toolkits: ‘Evidence Works’ and ‘Evaluation Works’.

The resources were created by staff from CLAHRC West and the West of England AHSN, with technical support from the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol). The toolkits were developed by the West of England AHSN in partnership with the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group Research and Evidence Team and CLAHRC West.
