Welcome to Clare and Alex

Clare Evans and Alex Leach have joined the AHSN as we start to roll-out new tools like our Innovation Exchange and look to build on our success in the adoption and spread of innovation. Clare, who has been working on the Innovation and Technology Payment  (ITP) scheme becomes our Deputy Director Service & System Transformation, and will lead on our adoption and spread work. Alex joins us from Designability to become our Deputy Director of Innovation and Growth.

Clare commented “Working on the ITP programme has been a fantastic introduction to the work of the AHSN, and has helped me understand how we can support our members to find and develop innovations and new ways for working. Being embedded in the regional health and care economy with links to industry, research bodies and universities, we are in a unique position to make the connections that aid successful adoption and spread.”

Alex said “I’ve worked with the AHSN as partner for many years and I’ve always admired their ability to make connections and offer support to innovators that are making a real contribution to our health system. I’m looking forward to taking on some of our online work such as hyvr and the Innovation Exchange, but I’m just as excited to be working, along with the rest of the Innovation and Growth team, with our members, academic partners, businesses and entrepreneurs to seek and nurture innovation across our region.

Clare trained as a Registered Nurse at Frenchay Hospital, Bristol and spent a lot of her career working in Neurosurgery in Oxford developing the role of the Nurse Practitioner in this specialty. In 2000 Clare took up a role as Nurse Consultant at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital later moving to University Hospitals Bristol. Clare has a wealth of experience across the acute surgical pathway developing pre-assessment services and enhanced recovery pathways. Clare has an MSc in Advanced Nursing Practice and was a recipient of the Health Foundation Leaders for Change award.

Alex also has a nursing background. She trained at King’s College London and specialised in Infectious Diseases and Haematology. She then moved to the medical device industry, gaining over 20 years of experience with a range of companies selling and marketing products, ranging from consumables, implants, capital equipment, diagnostics and generic pharmaceuticals. She has worked widely across the whole health care marketplace and has extensive experience of pathway redesign and business case development. Most recently, Alex worked as Commercial Manager for assistive technology charity Designability, leading on the commercialisation and exploitation of new products and services.
