Join the online launch of our new and extended South West of England Learning Disabilities Collaborative (SWLDC) on 3 October 2022, 1-2pm.

The expanded collaborative, previously the West of England Learning Disabilities Collaborative, will share learning and best practice across the South West with presentations including improving the outcomes of someone with a learning disability who becomes acutely unwell and use of hospital passports. Attendees will also hear from the NHS team on the national areas of focus for the learning disability community.

The West of England-led collaborative included over 300 members from varied backgrounds with multiple projects completed by the collaborative highlighted in NHS LeDeR Learning for Action reports. A recent commission from NHS South West saw the development of video resources to support annual health checks and to raise awareness of reasonable adjustments. In addition, the AHSN-led collaborative worked with NHS England to co-produce and deliver virtual managing deterioration training for over 7000 families and carers. Alison Tavaré, Primary Care Clinical Lead, West of England Academic Health Science Network, said:

“We want to build on this community model of working and at the launch event there will be an opportunity to learn more about the vision for the SWLDC and how you can be involved. We’re excited to be able to expand such a successful collaboration to the whole of the South West region and we would love for anyone who has an interest in improving the lives of people with a learning disability to join the collaborative.”

Graham Carr, Head of Learning Disability and Autism Programme, NHS England – South West, said:

“We are thrilled to continue our work with, and support of, the Learning Disabilities Collaborative as it expands to reach more people across the South West of England, and urge anyone working to support, or directly caring for individuals with a learning disability, to join. The core focus of the collaborative is to reduce the inequality in care for people with a learning disability. It does this by bringing people together, ensuring successful cross-system working and sharing of best practice.”

The South West of England Learning Disabilities Collaborative is funded and delivered in partnership with NHS England South West.
