The ninth cohort of HIPsters has successfully graduated from our Health Innovation Programme (HIP) 2022, bringing the total number of graduates up to 134.

The HIP is an intensive, fully funded training programme suitable for early to mid-stage healthcare innovators or entrepreneurs, (from clinical, lived experience or commercial backgrounds), who are seeking support for a health-based product or service. Products and services must have the potential to improve patient care, reduce NHS costs and help us to live healthier lives.

Innovations being developed by participants of the 2022 programme were wide-ranging, and included a phone-attachable skin imaging lens to aid the diagnosis of skin cancer, a digital social care staffing platform and a sleep paralysis support app.

Run in partnership with SETSquared – the global no. 1 university business incubator – the HIP specifically addresses the needs of healthcare innovators and covers core skills in entrepreneurship, delivering high-quality coaching, mentoring, and specialist healthcare innovation business development support. Delegates are able to test the validity of their business model, learn to explain the value of their proposition to the health sector and how to navigate the complex NHS landscape.

An interactive and immersive experience, the programme took place over five half-days. All learning sessions were delivered virtually, with optional afternoon networking and one-to-one mentor sessions. A fifth and final day of face-to-face pitching and presenting took place in person in Bristol.

Claire Denyer, Innovation and Growth Project Manager at the West of England AHSN, said: “It’s been another strong cohort with some very exciting innovations with the potential to make a real difference to healthcare providers and patients. We’re very much looking forward to continuing to support this latest cohort on their innovation journeys.”
