Last month, the West of England AHSN took part in this year’s Bristol Tech Festival – a five-day platform showcasing the region’s rich innovation ecosystem.

Bringing the South West tech community together through a programme of panel discussions, interactive seminars and social events spread across the city, the festival presented a line-up of expert speakers and leaders in their field.

West of England AHSN team members took part in a number of healthtech events, including:

Government innovation in science and technology – where next?

On the opening morning of the festival, Alex Leach, Acting Director of Innovation and Growth at the West of England AHSN, joined a panel of expert speakers to discuss the Government’s innovation strategy for science and technology.

How does it manage its ecosystem and partnerships to achieve this? How can firms wanting to work with public sector innovators become suppliers and grow their business? Where are investors focused right now? How will the NHS and healthtech industry collaborate? These were just some of the questions tackled by the panellists during the discussion and networking event, hosted by Mantis PR.

Healthtech products – innovation to implementation!

The South West boasts a vibrant healthtech cluster, with over 90 healthtech start-ups alone in Bristol. This sector has huge potential for the region, but it also has significant market challenges, from how to navigate the NHS to the rapidly evolving international digital regulatory landscape.

In an event organised by SETSquared, healthtech leaders, founders and investors shared advice for start-ups on product development, investment and routes to market.

Innovators were encouraged to make connections within the healthcare system by engaging with organisations like the West of England AHSN to help understand the healthcare system and to de-risk innovation and early-stage clinical input, as well as to broker relationships with clinicians. AHSN colleagues were on-hand to offer an insight into the support we can provide.

You can read SETSquared’s follow-up blog, featuring advice for health tech start-ups, here.
