Event summary

In line with the Gloucestershire Mental Health Crisis Concordat Action Plan and on behalf of the West of England Academic Health Science Network and Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group Senior Leaders in Gloucestershire are invited to attend a short focussed seminar exploring the impact that maternal mental illness.

This Seminar will be led by Anna Burhouse, Director of Quality, West of England AHSN with Keynote Speaker Dr Alain Gregoire, Consultant/Hon. Senior Lecturer in Perinatal Psychiatry, Southampton and Chair of the Maternal Mental Health Alliance.

Locally, Gloucestershire CCG has led a review of Maternity Pathways in conjunction with Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and other key health and social care partners.

This along with other Early Years work in the County across the health and social care community has identified the need to provide better and more targeted support to women and babies where vulnerabilities are identified. In terms of the South West Region, the Maternity and Children’s Strategic Clinical Network has also prioritised improving maternal and infant mental health for action.

Maternal mental health is one of these key vulnerabilities, which a growing body of evidence is suggesting has a big impact not just in the early years, but also on life-long outcomes.

This invitation is extended to a wide range of health and social care colleagues within the Gloucestershire area as we know the impact of poor maternal mental health has a significant impact on outcomes for both women and families across the life-span and not just those associated with maternity and the early years.
