Welcome To Q

“Q is an initiative connecting people with improvement expertise across the UK. Its mission is to foster continuous and sustainable improvement in health and care”- The Health Foundation

Welcome to the West of England Q Community page. This is a place to share our knowledge, learning and our successes – a place to let everyone know what you tried, even if it wasn’t so successful.

Here you’ll find case studies about the work and projects Q members from our STPs (Sustainability Transformation Partnerships) have been involved in. Our STPs are Gloucestershire; Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire; Bath, North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire.  In addition, you’ll find Q News updates and information about forthcoming events.

At our Welcome to Q event in March 2017, it was said: “Improvement in healthcare is 20% technical and 80% human.” So we’re embracing the ‘human’ side of improvement. Please feel free to share your ups and downs with us so that we can learn from one another’s experiences.

Opportunity: the Common Stewardship Group

Following on from the announcement of Hein Le Roux as our new Q Convenor in the West of England (a role which includes being a local and national Q ambassador as we work with the Health Foundation to move the Q Fellowship initiative forward), we are now in a position to start recruiting to our Common Stewardship Group (CSG) in the West.

We are looking for enthusiastic, determined people to become members of a group that will support the Q community in our region and help it grow in number and influence.  Where possible, we would like to take the Quality Improvement mindset, skills and knowledge and use them to support the STPs in our region to meet their goals and improve outcomes for patients and service users.

Ideally, we would like to recruit three Q members from each of our STPs (Gloucestershire, Bath & North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire, and Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire) from a variety of backgrounds and healthcare settings / organisations.

For the Member Role Description and Terms of Reference, please email Sophie on sophie.bland@weahsn.net.

If you would like to apply for this voluntary position, please send a copy of your CV (maximum two sides of A4) accompanied by a covering letter, explaining what value you would add to the CSG as we take the local Q community forward (maximum one side of A4) to sophie.bland@weahsn.net.

The closing date for applications is 5pm, Wednesday 4 October 2017.

Telephone interviews with myself and Anna Van Der Gaag from the Q Community will take place on Wednesday 11 October (morning) or Friday 13 October (afternoon), following a table-top shortlisting exercise.  Please advise on your application letter if neither of these dates are suitable for you.

For an informal discussion about the role, please email Hein in the first instance to arrange a call on hein.leroux@nhs.net.

How can I join the Q Community?

Opportunities to join Q in the West of England have closed for 2017 and will re-open in spring 2018. Be the first to know when we are open to new applications by registering your interest using the form on the Health Foundation website.
